Jay - great point about anemia as a risk, and the body's need for fat. Absolutely true. If you consume too many empty calories, you will not be hungry for food with real nutrients such as Iron (to prevent anemia). If you don't get enough fat then your body can't produce essential enzymes. Fat is NOT the enemy. Nuts are also a great source of quality fats. Crappy calories are the enemy. Thanks for contributing, Jay!

Of course your kids will get fat if you let them drink a 10 pack of capri suns everyday lol. You should limit them to 100%(not diluted) 4-6 ounces per day and follow behind it with a glass of water. Limit milk to 16 - 24oz per day. Too much juice and milk can lead more so to anemia quickly versus obesity. Water is always best(tap not bottle). Children need fat to grow such as butter, margarine, mayonnaise and vegetable oil. If someone tells you otherwise then you need to slap yourself for even entertaining the idea of stripping required nutrition's from your child's diet. If your childs doctor doesn't confirm this then you need to switch doctors fast and tell them why you are switching so they can go get their education upgraded.

Remember to look up Google's explanation of Anemia and I'm sure that should scare some sense into folks versus worrying about a little fat. In any case consult a doctor.

Ferlin - Sugar is a major cause of diabetes in adults and children, in my opinion. I'm not a doctor, but we were not designed to consume massive quantities of cheap food. Thanks for your comment.

I do agree about the issue on over consumption of juice. A lot of children in the childcare that I am working in are obese due to drinking too much sugary stuff.
I even heard of a case from my collegue that she has a relative child who is diagnose with diabetes due to having too much sugary stuff.Poor thing,he is only 8 years old.
Dear parents, please look out for your kids and watch out for their diet.

Hi,
I was of the same opinion as you re fruit juice, until my dentist told me otherwise. I now give my children diluted fruit juice, but only at meal times, as that was the time recommended for them to drink juice by the dentist. I'll try your "special treat" and se how that goes down for a change.
